The third of the day was won by Blue Willow Dairy’s ROOKIE YEAR ($4.90), who took advantage of a quick pace (24.15, 47.26 and 1:11.71) and rallied four deep on the backside, then struck the lead into the lane and just held for the victory under Silvino Morales for trainer Dave Forster. James Redekop and Stefan Ferrario's BROKE AN BROKEN was far back early, started to make good ground on the backstretch but ran into the tiring speed, had to check and alter course to the four path by Amadeo Perez and flew late to be a close runner-up for trainer Terry Jordan. Warren Wilson, June Sutherland, Neil Stajkowski, Barry Hickman and Lesley Small's WISELY PLAYED was prominent early under Kimal Santo in a good spot and closed well late despite having to check slightly on the final turn.

Nations Pride is Fourth International Winner for Godolphin
By: Jennifer Morrison | October 9, 2023
The 84th Canadian International (G1) became a two-horse race not long after the field of eight broke out of the starting gate for the 1 1/4 mile turf event.
It was a windy and cool day at Woodbine for the race made famous by Secretariat 50 years ago and offering a purse of $750,000.
Once again, Godolphin and trainer Charlie Appleby sent over a firecracker. The team had won the Woodbine Mile (G1) this year and last, won the International the last time it was held (2021) with Walton Street and a bunch of other Grade 1s in the middle.
NATIONS PRIDE, a beautifully-bred four-year-old by Teofilo (Ire), a son of Galileo (Ire), was a group 1 winner in Germany in July and the Grade 1 Saratoga Derby last summer at Saratoga. A 1 1/4 mile specialist, Nations Pride was targeted for this race early as it had been shortened from 1 1/2 miles this year.
Racing resumes at Hastings this Saturday, October 14 with a seven-race program. First race: 2:00 p.m.
