A slightly mixed day, weather-wise, turned into a perfectly lovely evening for racing which cooled noticeably towards the end of the night. The track remained fast and fair throughout
Race 1.
The first race on the Friday night program saw Rob and Sheena Maybin's RICK'S DANCER ($5.30) assume command early under Chris Mamdeen before cruising through easy splits of 23.20 and 47.44 and had lots left in reserve to find the line first in 1:19.01 for trainer Rob Maybin. Sandra Corsan’s BORROWED EQUITY was off a step slow, losing position away from the gate before producing a sharp move on the stretch turn with Brian Boodramsingh at the controls. They threatened the winner but had to settle for second. Shamrock Racing Stables’ NU SOUP FOR BABY had an unfortunate trip, as he showed speed and was in a great spot going into the first, but Kimal Santo’s saddle slipped forward and he was forced to ride the balance of the race without his feet in the stirrups. In the circumstances, the pair did amazingly well to finish the race and end up in third.
Race 2.
The second of the night went to Helen Klimes, Jo-Anne McDonald and Sharon Pring's THERE GOES MY HERO ($15.60), who was held far back off of a quick tempo under Amadeo Perez before inching closer on the final turn, waiting for room at the top of the stretch and getting through inside the sixteenth pole to snatch the win in 1:17.55 for trainer Steve Henson. Michelle Roberts-Henson, Brad Henson, Randy Henson, Dan Henson and Trevor Irwin's BARNEY GOOGLE made a huge rally in the late going under Kimal Santo and just missed in a big effort for conditioner Rob Henson. Willow Creek Farm's C C SUNRISE, the lone filly in the race, sat a perfect trip behind a speed duel (22.11, 45.81) with Scott Williams aboard, tipped out three-wide and ran on gamely to be third.
Race 3
The third was won by Rob and Sheena Maybin's VALERIE VALESKI ($10.00), who led from gate-to-wire under Chris Mamdeen, getting clear early in soft fractions of 22.74 and 46.18 staying clear of the field to win in 1:17.94 for trainer Rob Maybin. Demetris Topouzis’ B C CHRISTIE lacked position early as she was forced to take back off of the slow tempo due to her outside draw and Brian Boodramsingh was able to find the rail, arriving late to be a solid runner-up. WYN Racing Stables DRILL BABY DRILL was able to sit in a nice spot under Kimal Santo just off of the winner but couldn’t match strides with that one and just lost second inside the sixteenth pole.
Race 4.
The fourth of the day went to the Estate of Mauro Comensoli's DIVAANY ($12.50), who was given a textbook ride by Scott Williams, sitting just off of his stablemate early in the two path and winning the stretch-long battle for the victory in 1:18.47 for trainer Dino Condilenios. The Estate of Mauro Comensoli's STANFORD NORTH set the pace after being bumped at the start (22.68, 46.42) with Amadeo Perez up and they stayed gamely to the wire but were reeled in late and finished second for Dino Condilenios. Sharlea Stable's BARBERRY BANDIT was undoubtedly best but Antonio Reyes found trouble on the stretch turn, getting held up behind tiring runners, before flying late to finish an unlucky third for trainer, Frank Barroby.
Race 5.
The fifth of the evening was won by Don Danard and Mel Snow's E Z TONIGHT ($7.90), who sat a comfy trip in behind a quick pace (22.43, 46.42), then pounced at the far turn under Brian Boodramsingh to engage for the lead and drawing clear to win in 1:19.72 for trainer Mel Snow. Roxanne’s Racing Stable, Milton Palma, Cody and Kelsi Wellard's CHABI was void of early speed under Amadeo Perez, started to close on the final turn but struck trouble on the rail and had to wait for racing room. They rallied between runners to save the second spot for conditioner Pete Gregory. Trinity West Stables and Willow Lake Farms and Stables’ STILETTOS ONLY was content to trail early with Bebeto Harvey in the saddle and they put in a sustained four-wide run to make things interesting and ended up a very good third for trainer John Snow.
Race 6.
The sixth race saw Don Musgrove’s PINEAPPLE TIDBITS ($9.10) get the win under Silvino Morales as they rallied between runners in mid-pack, then swung out three wide for the drive, proving proved best in 1:46.06 for trainer Keith Pedersen. WYN Racing Stables’ ICE BREAKER was away well and in a good position early under Kimal Santo, but briefly checked on the clubhouse turn, losing position before rallying four-wide and getting up to be second for trainer Larry Grieve. Jordan Froelich and Ryan Deyotte's RICHARDS COMMAND was sharply away from the gate from her outside post but got hung three-wide on a quick pace (23.64, 47.57, 1:12.76). She showed good courage to put away the speed and hang on to be third for trainer Nicole Rycroft.
Race 7.
The final race of the night went to Don and Sue Danard's B C CHU CHU ($6.20), who cruised home a clear winner in 1:17.85 under Brian Boodramsingh after tracking quick fractions (22.25, 45.65) and turning in her best career performance for trainer Mel Snow. Jordan Froelich, George and Eleutherios Georgeopoulos’ DUKE GIRLS was in a nice striking position under Silvino Morales and rallied three-wide on the final bend to get the runner-up spot for trainer Dino Condilenios. Joe and Gloria Russo's DREAMING D’ORO was slow to get rolling, but got her stride going in the stretch and closed up nicely to be third under Kerron Khelawan for trainer Patty Leaney.
