Sunday's Runners and Riders
Seven cracking races for you at Hastings on Sunday, headlined by a classy-looking $25k Allowance for fillies and mares
Pagoda Ridge, One Fleet Princess, C R Sunrise and Always in Charge faced each other a fortnight ago and anyone of the four could step up here. One Fleet Princess only lost out on the win by a neck and will be fancied to go one better. SILK STILETTOS has run just the once in her career, finishing fifth last September, but has been creating a favourable impression in the mornings and can make her presence felt.
There was a lot to like about Belcarra Park’s 6-length win in a $50k optional claimer on opening day and she will be well supported to follow up here under the in-form Amadeo Perez. Better Tone also made an impression when rallying four wide to win a $16k claiming contest by more than 3 lengths in a manner that suggests thyere may be more to come. However, both may have to step up again if they are to handle the once-raced ALOBRAH who has been scattering geese in the mornings with some eye-catching workouts.
There’s not much to choose between any of these, with Northern Kid favoured to confirm the form he showed when besting three of today’s rivals earlier this month. BETTIN’ MAN was just behind Northern Kid that day, but led them a merry dance for a while and it wouldn’t be a shock to see the lightly-raced 4yo reverse the placings. Jack Don’t Drink is a very consistent type but has had plenty of chances and may find one or two better again today.
This $16k claiming event is a proper puzzle with a case to made for virtually every runner. Baby Grand led everywhere except the line on his first run of the season and will be well supported to go one better here. Like several of these, Baklane finished behind Baby Grand last time but he was allowed to come home under his own steam by Efrain Hernandez once his chance had gone and he should be a lot closer this time. It may pay value hunters to take a chance on LUCKY LUKE, who steps up in class after an impressive win last time out on what was his Hastings debut.
PINEAPPLE TIDBITS ran a cracker in defeat on opening day and she can reverse the form with Countess Cat and the winner that day, Heart of Texas. Racino was closest at the finish on her reappearance two weeks ago over an insufficient 6 furlongs and she can go closer again today for the Hastings Racing Club.
WE B THREE doesn’t come out to play very often but, when she does, the Steve Henson-trained 4yo filly usually leaves an impression. A valuable Allowance win last term came on her first start and the former Sadie Diamond Stakes runner-up would need only to improve a little on this season’s debut to go close here. Anothersunnyday and Kick Up the Dust finished ahead of We B Three that day and will be no pushovers.
Another challenging finale for bettors, with any number of thee capable of winning this one their day. Take Charge Gwen rarely fails to hit the board and is the worthy morning line favourite. A slight preference is given to the equally resolute ANIMA, who should be spot on after a solid third-place finish two weeks ago. Harlan’s Angel also ran well in Anima’s race and she appeals most of the others.
