A valuable claiming contest, featuring the rapid BOLD ARCH, classy SIR BREGOVIC and last season's four-time winner FLORIDA GATOR, headlines another seven-race card at Hastings on Sunday
EYE BE SEEING YOU rarely lets anyone down and a repeat of his second-place finish to I’m A Chi Too, with MAKEITORBREAKIT behind, on his season debut would put him close to winning here. MONTE finished last season with a win on what was the first time he’d been dropped onto the bottom rung of the ladder, he’s been working well in the mornings and he’s an obvious threat.
REMEMBERTHEALAMO was highly-tried last season but is dropped noticeably here after disappointing behind sensational Lucky Force last time. Unraced as a juvenile, THERE GOES MY HERO makes his third appearance of the new season and his nose defeat of the well-backed Deanarrow (with 9-lengths back to the third) last time give him solid claims here. ROLLIE’S SPIRIT had BARNEY GOOGLE just behind him last time out there’s nothing between them and the tables could easily be turned today.
NO PEOPLE makes her Hastings debut after being brought in from Turf Paradise as part of the brilliant Fresh Horse Program. She flies the flag for the red-hot Dino Condilenios barn and is one for the shortlist. Sights have been lowered with TAM TRICKY after she ran well enough behind Shamra last time. There’s nothing of that calibre to worry her here. ISLAND LIVING has another half-furlong to get her head of steam going as she look to follow up on her game win two weeks ago.
DON WITH THE WIND makes his first appearance of the new campaign and is entitled to need the race, although he finished last season with two wins at this 8½ furlong trip and can’t be ignored. GORKY PARK takes a small amount of class relief here after rallying behind Good Bye Putin over an insufficient 6-furlongs and this should be more to his liking. AVE’S IN COMMAND ran well when third on his season debut two weeks ago and is another who will appreciate the extra real estate.
BOLD ARCH led for much of his reappearance two weeks ago before fading down the stretch and the veteran speed addict should be ‘match fit’ today. FLORIDA GATOR has taken to Hastings superbly, winning four of his six races at the East Van oval since his arrival last summer. He makes his season debut today but should still have plenty to say about how this one turns out. SIR BREGOVIC remains a class act and proved as much earlier this month when winning first time up this season.
SHESBOURBONONICE made a solid start to her second season, finishing third behind Island Living and Lilsisterlee (who finished second again yesterday). A repeat of that performance puts her right at the heart of this. Turf Paradise import STAR FINALITY missed the break on her first appearance at the track, but ran well enough to suggest a maiden win is on the near horizon. PETERSON LANDING ran just once last season, but wasn’t beaten too far in what turned out to be quite a hot 2yo contest. She’s been working well and represents the powerful Edgar Mendoza barn.
A fantastic collection of hard-knocking war horses do battle in a typically open nightcap where pretty much any of the eight entries could win. RING OF KERRY has a nice turn of foot and was rallying late behind Morethansoultitle on his season debut. The race should have put him straight and he’s a real threat at this level. QUAGMIRE was just behind Ring of Kerry a fortnight ago and is perfectly capable of landing the spoils. WISE MARKET is another that rarely runs a poor race and he should benefit from a race under his belt and the marginally shallower waters he faces here.
