Another balmy summer evening with the good-sized Friday-night crowd comfortable in shirtsleeve order and thrilled by some pulsating finishes, five of which were decided by a length or less. The track was fast and fair.
Race 1.
The first on Friday saw the heavily favoured TEXAS LEGACY ($3.50) get up in deep stretch to win for owners Bill Dobbie, John Snow, Darryl and Kristy Hammond. Fraser Aebly had the mare settled nicely behind a tepid pace then shifted out to the three path on the final bend and had to best late kick to claim her first ever victory in 1:19.23 for trainer John Snow. Roy and Dixie Jacobson’s LILSISTERLEE was allowed to set a leisurely tempo of 23.02 and 47.23 under Kimal Santo and stayed on gamely to win the photo for second for trainer Mark Cloutier. Ironside Stables SHE'S ON FIRE was off a step slow, which cost her early position, causing her to be an unlucky third at the finish.
Race 2.
The second was won by Joe and Gloria Russo's MAJESTIC STREET ($4.60), who was given a perfect ride by Kerron Khelawan, tracking the pace and striking the front in the stretch. The duo had just enough left to find the wire first for trainer Patty Leaney in 1:11.75. Canyon Farm's ROAD CLOSURE was taken far back off of the pace by Fraser Aebly and came flying late but ran out of ground at the six furlong distance. Canyon Farm's MONTE set a relaxed pace of 23.10 and 46.45 but couldn’t stay with the top two and ended up third.
Race 3.
The third race of the day went to Helen Jewell's APPELLANT ($10.80) who showed his brilliant late speed to swamp the field in stretch when it counted under Kerron Khelawan in 1:45.85 for trainer Ian Jewell. Len Houweling, Doug Corsan and Mel Snow's SLEW'S DA BOSS was relaxed early by Fraser Aebly and made a big wide sweep to the lead leaving the backstretch but was caught late and finished second. Joe and Gloria Russo's COUNTRY COWBOY set a pressured pace of 24.65, 48.89 and 1:14.14 under Learie Seecharan and they stayed-on gamely to wire, ending up third.

Race 4.
The fourth of the night saw James Redekop and Stefan Ferrario's BROKE AN BROKEN ($5.90) get his third win of the season for trainer Terry Jordan in 1:45.59. Antonio Reyes took command early then relinquished the lead passing the stands for the first time. He then waited patiently for an opening at the top of the stretch which proved to be a winning move as he got up to win by a nose. Willow Creek Farm's LAUGH WITH ME ran too good to lose, setting sensible splits of 25.41, 49.49 and 1:13.93 and just got nailed on the line. WYN Racing Stables’ FAMILY BIZ was sharp early, chasing the leader LAUGH WITH ME and racing as a tandem until stretch when he started to give-in and checked a good third.
Race 5.
The fifth race went to Don and Sue Danard's MAGIC ROAD ($6.20), who tracked the comfortable fractions of 23.02 and 46.70 under Fraser Aebly who was able to shake loose heading to the stretch and easily held his advantage to win in 1:19.31 for trainer Mel Snow. Sharlea Stable's BARBERRY BANDIT had a bit of a wide trip throughout under Silvino Morales but fought on well to be second for conditioner Frank Barroby. James Strachan's SOMTHING ELUSIVE was reined in after breaking on top, settled on the rail, then crept closer on the final turn before being angled out three-wide at the top of the lane to be a close third.

The sixth race on the program was won by Bob Leffler, Bryan Killins and Gord McCormick’s ANOTHERSUNNYDAY ($5.40), who set a comfortable pace of 22.84 and 46.56 under Amadeo Perez. The pair drifted out slightly turning for home, losing the lead, but battled back to claim victory in 1:18.41 for trainer Dino Condilenios. Deyotte Racing’s RICHARDS COMMAND saved every inch of ground in her 2023 debut with Learie Seecharan in the saddle and had the lead in late stretch but had to settle for second in an impressive effort. D and E Racing's LIZZIES GIRL sat a perfect trip in the two path just off of the pacesetter and loomed up turning for home but couldn’t go by the top two.

Race 7.
The last event of the Friday evening saw Wil-a-Way Farms CALAMAZEUS ($15.20) rally sharply from just off the pace to win in the closing strides under Fraser Aebly in 1:17.92 for popular trainer Pat Jarvis. Sasquatch Stables’ RING OF KERRY led virtually from gate to wire under Antonio Reyes, but just got nipped at the finish. Minnaloushe Stables and Dave Milburn's YOU DON'T OWN ME was intent on getting the lead and secured the rail through fractions of 22.39 and 45.96, stayed game til the stretch but yielded late and checked in a good third.
