Stakes Success for Local Breeders
With the overnights delayed due to technical issues that will hopefully be resolved by the time you read this, we're taking a look back at the BC-bred winners over Canada Day weekend
Technical Issues
Locally Bred Winners
It was a case of quality over quantity with the BC-breds last week, as eight winners at Hastings over the two days included Stakes winners U DID IT, REGAL RIOT, LEGACY SQUARE and of course the return of Horse of the Year, INFINITE PATIENCE.
Perhaps most notable among the winners bred in our beautiful Province over Canada Day weekend were the half-siblings, U DID IT and LEGACY SQUARE, who are both out of the former BC Champion 2yo filly, and now prolific dam of winners, ARCHITECTURE.
Raced by Swift Thoroughbreds, Architecture won the Fantasy Stakes, the British Columbia Cup Debutante Stakes and the CTHS Stakes and is by the G1-winning 2yo, Dixie Chatter. She is a half-sister to the BC Oaks runner-up TIPTOE (Tiz Wonderful) and she is already the dam of Jack Diamond Stakes runner-up, BLUEPRINT (Pop Artist) and winners HORST (Teide) and BOOKIE (Teide).
Coincidentally, Architecture’s sibling Blueprint was also runner-up in the Supernaturel Stakes as a juvenile and it seems the race remains very much in the blood.
Many congratulations to Christine Ammann, who bred both U Did It and Legacy Square, and to all the connections of BC-bred winners this past week.

Our Hastings Racecourse backstretch family has lost many near and dear horsemen and horsewomen in the year 2022 and among those, sadly, was the passing of Donna Wyn Kopp this past February.
Donna and husband Victor bred, raised and raced many thoroughbreds under K&G Farms and as she bravely fought a battle with cancer, one of the promises the family made was to carry on Donna’s love of horse racing in honour of their sister, mother and granny.
That led to the newly-formed WYN Racing Stables and trainer Larry Grieve, better known as ‘Uncle Larry’, captured his first win in memory of his sister Donna with Von Dom on May 15 of this year. The entire WYN family was on hand to celebrate the victory.
Though most of the family is new to the backstretch, the goal is to continue to grow their current four-horse stable to a minimum of eight. They have been encouraged by the overwhelming kindness, encouragement and overall support from the backstretch community.
All of those traits had been mentioned to them frequently by Donna, who cherished the environment of everything to do with the horse racing industry.
