Cooler conditions arrived as we get ready to enter summer and there were plenty of brooding clouds around. Happily, the rain stayed away and the crowd enjoyed plenty of sunny spells on an afternoon where the the track remained fast throughout.
Race 1.
The first on Saturday was won by Brian Albertson and the Estate of Dennis Tucker’s INDYETTA ($3.40), who settled comfortably with Amadeo Perez at the controls just off of a very slow early pace and eked out the victory for trainer Cindy Krasner; covering the six and a half furlongs in 1:18.32. WYN Racing Stables’ TAM TRICKY rocketed out of her outside gate and immediately took command, setting splits of 23.28 and 47.20 and just missed under Kimal Santo for trainer Larry Grieve. Bruce Unwin's TOBESUNNY fell victim again to a slow early tempo and had to settle for third money. Ed Claggett, Foster Armstrong and Craig MacPherson's JUST MISTY was declared a non-starter as she did not receive a fair start and all wagers on her were refunded.
Race 2.
The second of the afternoon was the most exciting of the day, as Michelle Roberts-Henson, Brad Henson, Dan Henson, Randy Henson and Trevor Irwin's BARNEY GOOGLE ($19.50) came from a mile back to catch them all at the wire under Amadeo Perez for trainer Rob Henson in 1:18.15. Joe and Gloria Russo's DEPUTYS DANCER was given a perfect ride by Kerron Khelawan, saving every inch of ground behind the speed, but couldn’t hold off the oncoming BARNEY GOOGLE. Canyon Farm's MONTE was well rated by Fraser Aebly through fractions of 22.23 and 45.54 and showed grit in the lane and lost by less than a length, finishing a much improved third.

EARS TO US claimed by owners Hawaiian Shirt Guys for trainer Dino Condilenios
Race 3.
The third on the program went to Jim and Anne Alendal’s HARLAN'S ANGEL ($3.70), who was on the pace throughout under Amadeo Perez and just managed to get up in deep stretch for the victory in 1:46.18 and giving trainer Cindy Krasner her second win on the day. Bulldog Bros. Racing and Paul Lesmaurier's ANIMA set a lively pace (23.28, 46.88 and 1:12.18) and stayed game to the wire but has to settle for second. Rob and Sheena Maybin's DONE THAT rallied from far back to take third spot late and was travelling best at the end.
Race 4.
The fourth went to the heavily favoured ARUNDEL CASTLE ($3.10), owned by Lyle Johnson, Mark Johnson and Clive Harding, and she was allowed to set a record slow pace of 25.90, 52.12 and 1:19.26 for six panels and, while there were some anxious moments on the final turn, she battled on to a victory in 1:49.73 for conditioner Keith Pedersen. The Forster Stable and Blue Willow Dairy’s CHI SHE’S SONG chose to sit off the pace and ran on well to be second. Larry Potozny's ELLAMEISTER was three wide through the final three-eighths of a mile and checked in a close third.
Race 5.
The fifth race saw rider Amadeo Perez record his fifth consecutive win of the day as he guided James Redekop and Stefan Ferrario's BROKE AN BROKEN ($3.10) to a gate-to-wire score. The fractions were kind to the Terry Jordan pupil as he able to set splits of 25.68, 50.92 and 1:15.91, then sprinted away in the lane to come home a clear winner in 1:46.06. The Minnaloushe Stables and Dave Milburn's SLOOP JOHN B was content to sit on the outside of the winner through the slow tempo. He put a brief scare into the winner but was relegated to the runner-up spot in the stretch. Kent Bird and Dino Condilenios’ BETTER TONE ended up a troubled third after checking repeatedly on the rail behind the ridiculously slow pace and was unable to make any headway on the top two.
Race 6.
The sixth of the afternoon was won by Jordan Froelich's MR. QUALITY ($7.30), who sat a perfect trip in second under Amadeo Perez, chasing slow fractions of 24.81, 49.00 and 1:13.82. When called upon on the stretch turn, the Dino Condilenios runner showed in a quick turn of foot to open up in the lane to win in 1:45.56. The Last Call Racing Stable and Cathy Bornn’s JUST MAKE BELIEVE was away well but yielded and lost valuable position early, which proved too much to overcome and he came charging late under Antonio Reyes to be second. J G Williamson Racing’s GOOD BYE PUTIN used the rail to his advantage and got up to be a closing third.
Race 7.
The last of the day saw a brilliant performance from Canyon Farm’s PURSUE ($13.10), who was a bit cantankerous to load but left the gate far better this time and sat close to the pace, then looped the field approaching the far turn and drew away for a big score in 1:17.29 under Jose Sanchez for trainer Craig MacPherson. Warren Wilson, Neil Stajkowski, June Sutherland, Ross Switzer and Barry Hickman's BRIAN’S DE LEIGHT delayed the start for about five minutes before finally loading but turned in a much improved effort, showing speed through splits of 22.74 and 46.29 and stayed on bravely to be a clear second. The Ironside Stables’ DESIRED OUTCOME was a little slow early but got his stride going late to be a closing third.
