Injured Riders Update
The very best wishes of everyone on the backstretch go out to Hastings’ riders Kuri Powell and Chris Mamdeen, who are both recovering from recently-sustained injuries. Chris is sat up but remains in hospital after being kicked quite badly while hot-walking on Saturday. Kuri, meanwhile, took a fall while galloping on Wednesday morning and was a last seen walking, but wearing a sling. Get well soon, guys. We need you back!

Win Like a Good Thing!
A bit of fun from opening day at Royal Ascot. Owner Rich Ricci gets too nervous to watch so, instead, they gave him a mic and filmed him agonizing in public. He needn’t have worried. VAUBAN, the odds-on favourite, who runs in the colours of Ricci’s wife Susannah, was never in trouble under Ryan Moore and sent the punters home happy after landing the last race on Tuesday, the Copper Horse Handicap. The Royal Meeting continues through Saturday.
Advocate Scores for U.S.
The U.S notched a first of the Royal Meeting on Wednesday when CRIMSON ADVOCATE and John Velazquez claimed the narrowest of victories in a thrilling climax to the Queen Mary Stakes. A field of 26 juvenile fillies went to post for the five-furlong opener on day two and the George Weaver-trained Crimson Advocate made a rapid start in the hands of his Hall of Fame pilot. The 9-1 shot, a winner at Gulfstream Park in Florida last month, led her rivals a merry dance for much of the way and it was just a question of whether she would hold on racing inside the final furlong. She did. But only just. Kentucky-born Weaver had saddled just one previous runner at the Royal meeting, with the Velazquez-ridden Cyclogenisis finishing down the field in the 2015 Commonwealth Cup.
