Redekop Raider in George Royal Bid
A classy field of ten slated for a cracking renewal of the $50k George Royal, while Heidi renews battle with Bayakoa's Image in the $50k Emerald Downs Stakes
Harvest Day should have things more to his liking on the front end today and a softer lead would certainly boost his chances. However, Atomic Haze and Stay All Night will hope to be a little closer at the business end this time and can give the likely pace-setter something to think about. JUVEE TOO’s win last time looks rock solid, with the runner-up and third going on to win and finish second next time.
A classy line-up for this valuable allowance contest. Arikara showed a change of gear to catch and pass the leaders on sloppy going a fortnight ago, but this contest looks like a different proposition. Mi Reyna’s win on opening day and a subsequent fourth behind the impressive Rea Mea also puts her in contention. Floral and Definite Pleasure also ran well behind Rea Mea last time and should be in the mix, while QUEEN OF ATTITUDE displayed some real pizzazz to decide matters on her debut and has not missed the board in nine career starts.
Although Century Mile Oaks heroine HEIDI beat Bayakoa’s Image on merit when the two clashed a fortnight ago, it was a tactical affair on a wet track and it will be fascinating to see how they match up today. The Heads/Bennett team are double-handed and neither Cha Ching or Solarity benefited from the relative dawdle last time and should be a lot closer here. Rea Mea displayed an impressive turn of foot to decide matters on her reappearance and it would be no surprise to see her in the shake-up for this $50k Stakes contest.
Klondike Gentleman made stealthy headway to grab third on his seasonal debut and should progress again. QUAGMIRE was five lengths ahead of Klondike, narrowly failing to hold on his long-held lead at the wire, and he will take some stopping again today. Ave’s in Command chased home The All Button last time and a repeat of that should put him in the mix, while Ring of Kerry has some gears on his day and should strip fitter this time.
ALWAYS A KNIGHT ran Little Groot to a length last time and a repeat of that performance will put him close to the winner’s circle again today. Racing River won in tougher company than this last season and he’d be in with a chance if back to anything like his best. Sword Fighter’s third to The All Button on his reappearance also puts him in the frame for this competitive heat. The Chances R makes most appeal of the others.
A wonderful collection of talented performers assembled for this $50k contest. Bold Arch came within a half second of the track record on his reappearance two weeks ago and continues to improve with racing. This will be his biggest test to date, however, as he takes on a dual Derby winner in Uncharacteristic, last season’s top claimer Sir Bregovic, the speedy seven-time winner Porter Gent and the unbeaten Be Quick. The Peter Redekop raider ANYPORTINASTORM, meanwhile, arrives at Hastings on the back of a solid third-placed finish in the Lost in the Fog Stakes at Golden Gate Fields (a race he won the previous season). A repeat of that performance by this seasoned Stakes winner and the prize could be his.
AMANDA finished a creditable fourth in the recent Sadie Diamond Stakes and the twice Stakes-placed filly is surely a maiden winner in waiting. Whether that’s today would appear to rest largely on deciphering the ability of once-raced Kleopatra, who chased home Rose of Texas in a $50k optional claimer last time, and working out just how unlucky Cattitude was when her timely challenge came unstuck in traffic behind Amanda a fortnight ago. Value Dancer caught the eye with a late flourish last time, while Daphne and Miss the Hype should also be winning before too long.
