HIGHLIGHTS

Fraser Aebly piloted two winners.
The handle was $390,441.
Four of the day’s seven winners were BC-bred
It was definitely sweater weather at times, but Sunday provided another perfect fall day under cloudless skies for Hastings’ racegoers to enjoy. The track was fast with the majority of winners again coming from on, or close to, the pace.
Race 1.
The first race on the Sunday program saw Rob and Sheena Maybin's CERTIFIABLE ($5.80) lead the field from gate to wire under Ridge Balgobin. The five-year-old mare was away in good order, set sensible fractions of 24.23, 47.96 and 1:13.01 and was able to hold all challengers at bay for the victory in 1:45.59 for conditioner Rob Maybin. Rob and Sheena Maybin's VALUE MAX completed the Maybin Exactor by finishing second despite being a little wide throughout under Chris Mamdeen. Roger Snow and Maurice Doyle's BODEGA had a dream run in behind the speed but could only manage to rescue the third spot.

BODEGA was claimed by owners Rob & Sheena Maybin for trainer Rob Maybin
Race 2.
The second of the afternoon went to Don Musgrove's ASKMENOQUESTIONS ($11.60), who sped from the gate to secure the rail and the lead, then cruised through fractions of 24.10, 48.91 and 1:13.72 under Amadeo Perez and was not threatened, winning in 1:45.25 for trainer Keith Pedersen. Rob and Sheena Maybin's SILARONE was in a perfect striking position under Chris Mamdeen as they tracked the pace in the two path, but couldn’t get to the winner and finished a clear second. Dino Condilenios’ CHAMPIOSA was tucked in on the rail saving all the ground and checked in a good third.
Race 3.
The third race of the day was won by Lorie Henson Helen Klimes and Sharon Pring's QUAGMIRE ($8.30) who showed he loved the mile and a sixteenth distance, setting a slow pace (24.98, 48.85 and 1:13.53) under Fraser Aebly. The duo refused to let anyone by and hit the line first in 1:44.81. J G Williamson Racing’s GOOD BYE PUTIN was positioned on the rail throughout most of the race under Silvino Morales. They saw an opening on the inside in the stretch but couldn’t make up the needed ground and checked in second. Nicole Droder's FAMILY BIZ was given every chance by Kerron Khelawan, racing right on the lead with the winner from the start, but was simply third best today.
Race 4.
The fourth went to Ed Claggett's LUCKY FORCE ($2.60) who was off a step slow but, with no one overly keen on getting the lead, Amadeo Perez seized the opportunity and they galloped up to the front through splits of 23.13 and 46.23 and easily bested his three rivals in 1:17.22 for trainer Craig MacPherson. Morris Peter, Dennis Dale and Ed Welsh's ROCKCLIFFE was wrestled back behind the slow pace by Silvino Morales, made a good run on the final turn and just held second ahead of JG Williamson Racing's TIME TICKER, who closed-up late to be third.
Race 5.
The fifth race of the day saw Stuart Carmichael and Mark Freeman’s WICKED NIGHT ($4.40) sit in the garden spot behind the speed under Amadeo Perez before closing-up strongly in the stretch to win going away in 1:16.74 for trainer Mark Cloutier. Marty Miller's LOVEABOVEANDBEYOND set a contested pace of 22.38 and 45.74, took the lead into the lane but could not hold off the winner, ending up a clear runner-up for conditioner Edgar Mendoza. Peter Redekop's AZOV SEA was part of a quick pace under Fraser Aebly and was in contention until the three-sixteenths pole, where he started to give ground, but held on determinedly for third.
Race 6.
The sixth of the afternoon went to Mort Hall and Praven Sorensen's ARTISTIC JEWLER, who was guided to the rear of the field by Fraser Aebly, both content to watch the contested pace evolve in front of them. When the leaders started to weaken, she lengthened her stride and breezed by for a big score in 1:44.46 for trainer Barbara Heads. Jordan Froelich's BELLAROO was nestled in behind the quick pace (23.74, 47.35 and 1:12.09) on the inside, but lacked racing room when needed on the stretch turn, got out too late and could only get into the second spot. Gary Johnson, Pumpkin Stable and Sharlea Stable’s ZETAMARIE was up close to the pace and did very well to best the balance of the field to be third.
Race 7.
The seventh and final event of the day was won by Ernie Chu and Rob and Vicky Gilker's Y VEE R ($7.80), who crushed the field in a wire-to-wire powerhouse performance (22.21, 45.79) under Kerron Khelawan and drew away late to win for fun in 1:16.74 for trainer Rob Gilker. Stewart Spencer's KNOPFLER put in his usual workmanlike effort racing wide and closing nicely to be second under Silvino Morales for trainer Keith Pedersen. Willow Creek Farm's SELF SERVING ran another good one under Fraser Aebly, sitting just off of the early tempo and finishing well to be third.
Claims:
Y VEE R was claimed by owners Mr & Mrs Barroby for trainer Harold Barroby
