Race 1.
The first of the day went to Pat Jarvis’ MARTELLO ($6.90) who broke on top and set a comfortable opening quarter mile of 22.80, was then pushed hard to the half-mile station in 45.88 but was always travelling confidently under the guidance of Amadeo Perez and shook loose late for the victory in 1:17.43 for conditioner Pat Jarvis. The Hastings Horsepower and Mark Freeman’s BOUNDFORJAMAICA was pestering the pace throughout under Kuri Powell and ran on gamely to the wire to be a clear second for trainer Peter Milburn. Rob and Sheena Maybin's TRUPON ONLINE rallied from well back to nail down the third spot.
Race 2.
The second of the afternoon was won by the Lindsay Racing Stable, Steen Reggelsen and Kathy Mydske's VALUE MAX($7.10), who was given a picture perfect ride by Silvino Morales saving every inch of ground throughout to get the win in 1:18.34 for trainer Edgar Mendoza. Rob and Sheena Maybin's EYE BE SEEING YOU lost ground on the final turn going outside of a drifting out rival at the top stretch and flew late to just miss at the finish ending up an unlucky runner-up. Jim Strachan's DEBATABLE was last early and made a bold move in the lane to snare third money.
Claims:
VALUE MAX was claimed by MJD Stables, trainer Demetri Topouzis
Race 3.
The third on the program went to Ed Claggett's LUCKY FORCE ($8.20), who was away a step slow but darted up between rivals passing the stands for the first time under Ridge Balgobin to claim a clear lead (22.90, 47.61) and settled nicely down the backside. When the challenges came on the final bend he responded and refused to let anyone pass him to get the win in 1:20.06 for trainer Craig MacPherson who did well to have him ready to win at first asking. JDP Holdings FORCE TO REKN WITH ran another good one racing close to the slow pace and splitting runners on the stretch turn but had to settle for second money. Tod Mountain Thoroughbreds and James Redekop's DANCING WITH LIL had the lead early but chose to settle in behind runners on the rail and had every shot through the closing stages but was third best today.
Race 4.
The fourth on the card was won easily by Rob Thacker's PINEAPPLE TIDBITS ($4.80), who settled beautifully on the rail behind the speed and when given her cue by Silvino Morales responded with a good turn of foot to win going away in 1:17.34 for conditioner Demetris Topouzis. George Gilbert's TAKE CHARGE GWEN was put on the lead after no one was particularly interested in it and she carved out splits of 22.46 and 46.14 had a good margin on the final turn but couldn’t hold off of onrushing PINEAPPLE TIDBITS and held well to be second. Rob and Vicky Gilker's MAKIN IT UP raced much of the trip in the three path and battled on gamely to come back on to go third money.
Claims:
PINEAPPLE TIDBITS was claimed by Donald Musgrove and Stewart Spencer, trainer Keith Pedersen
Race 5.
The fifth race went to the heavily favoured REMARKABLE ANGEL ($2.80), who sat a perfect trip outside of very slow tempo with Kerron Khelawan up and outsprinted her competition to the wire in 1:18.34 for the owners the IronsideStables and trainer Rob VanOverschot. Russ and Lois Bennett's SHOWMAN turned in another good effort setting a pedestrian pace of 23.50 and 47.63 then stayed with the winner until deep stretch but ended up losing the battle and finished second. John Snow, William Dorsett and Bill Dobie’s TEXAS LEGACY was up on the slow pace and held well to be a close third well clear of the balance of the field.
Claims:
REMARKABLE ANGEL was claimed by Joe and Gloria Russo, trainer Patty Leaney
Race 6.
The sixth event was taken by Michelle Roberts-Henson’s RACING RIVER ($22.00), who was given a brilliant ride by Scott Williams nestling him in behind the very fast pace (21.85, 45.68) then taking command at the far turn and they never looked back winning in the clear in 1:17.21 for trainer Rob Henson. Patty Leaney's MCMURPHY wasn’t quick enough to get to the top so Amadeo Perez opted to settle on the rail behind the leaders then started to gain on the turn and easily got into the second spot finishing well behind the winner. The Wil-a-Way Farms CALAMAZEUS had no luck with the trip as he was stuck out in the three and four path throughout the entire race and showed good courage to rescue third placing.
Claims:
MCMURPHY was claimed by Rob and Sheena Maybin, trainer Rob Maybin
Race 7.
The final race on the program went to the Willow Creek Farms MY COLLEGE FUND ($4.70), who was positioned close to the extremely slow fractions under Amadeo Perez then split runners on the backside to gain a short lead and held that advantage to the wire in 1:45.65 for trainer Steve Henson. Rob and Sheena Maybin's OSTRACIZE ran another good one sitting on the pace which was kind (25.65, 50.64 and 1:14.65) and the filly pinned her ears and tried to win it but had to settle for a game runner-up effort against her male opponents. The WYN Racing Stables VON DOM was away in good order and set the slow tempo under apprentice Fraser Aebly but couldn’t match strides with the top two and ended up third.
