Another unseasonably warm and dry October afternoon with some low smokey haze. The track was fast.
Race 1.
The first on the Sunday program went to Joe and Gloria Russo's REMARKABLE ANGEL ($4.10), who was committed to the front end from the start under Kimal Santo and duelled through splits of 22.41 and 46.16 and proved best in the lane winning in the clear in her first run after the claim in 1:18.53 for trainer Patty Leaney. Bruce Unwin’s INDYGOGOLD was content to sit and watch the dueling leaders then started to make a move on the final turn and just got up to claim the second spot a nose ahead off the More Rewards Syndicate’s WIDE AWAKE who checked in third.
Race 2.
The second of the day was the final leg of the Marathon Series and unfortunately after scratches the field was reduced to just three long winded runners. Hitting the line first was the Willow Creek Farm's LAUGH WITH ME ($4.10) who set sensible fractions for the distance of 24.72, 49.77, 1:14.98 and got the mile in 1:40.90 then started to pull clear in the lane to win under Amadeo Perez in 2:32.64 for trainer Steve Henson. Praven Sorensen and Mort Hall's ARTISTIC JEWLER relaxed into a nice gallop behind the pacesetters and put in a sharp three wide move to make things interesting but couldn't stay with the winner and ended up second. The Willow Creek Farms and Fabio Chiesa's FRANKIE MACHINE was in a good spot early and looked to be a danger but was outsprinted to the wire and finished third.
Race 3.
The third event of the afternoon was won by Don Musgrove and Stewart Spencer's PINEAPPLE TIDBITS ($7.10) who was given a perfect ride by Silvino Morales saving every inch of ground before angling off the rail to easily breeze by the leader to win in 1:17.90 for trainer Keith Pedersen. Gary Johnson, Zeta Hannah, Sharlea and Pumpkin Stables ZETAMARIE was well back early but came with a furious late kick to put a scare into the winner but she ended up a clear runner-up. The Dreamtime Stable and Bruce Unwin’s TOBESUNNY was another that was far back early and prospered from the quick pace closing up in the stretch to be third.
Race 4.
The fourth of the day was won by the Tod Mountain Thoroughbreds and James Redekop's DANCING WITH LIL ($14.10) who was sent off to the lead by Silvino Morales and cleared heading to the first turn, which was the key to victory as she set a relaxed pace of 22.41 and 47.15 and she stayed game right the wire and won by a desperate nose in 1:20.47 for trainer Edgar Mendoza. The Tod Mountain Thoroughbreds and James Redekop's WELLSLEY had to await room while racing on the inside then shook free at the top of the stretch and just missed under Amadeo Perez. Dave Milburn and Mark Freeman’s FILLY FATALE was away well but chose to give up the rail and the lead to sit in the second spot on the outside and while she battled gamely could only get third money beaten less than a length.
Race 5.
The fifth on the Sunday program went to George Gilbert's BELCARRA PARK ($7.40) who enjoyed the cutback in distance to a sprint and took the field wire to wire setting reasonable fractions of 22.51 and 45.71 then won the fight to the finish under Amadeo Perez in 1:17.26 for trainer Mark Cloutier. The Ironside Stables PRETTY ARIA ran her usual tough race stalking the speed and stuck head in front in midstretch but was just outrun to the wire. Rob and Sheena Maybin's WANDALITA had a good trip down on the inside and ended up a close third.
Race 6.
The sixth of the day was won easily by Stan Sharma's VALUABLE COWBOY ($4.40), who had no troubles making the jump up in class after the claim. Set a leisurely pace of 23.11 and 46.54 by Silvino Morales, the pair held a daylight lead on the final bend and never gave them a chance as he cruised under the line the easiest of winners in 1:17.99 for trainer Brian O'Connell. Roy and Dixie Jacobson’s COUNTRY COWBOY showed more speed to lay close to the very slow pace and ran on to be an easy second. Warren Wilson, June Sutherland, Neil Stajkowski, Barry Hickman and Lesley Small's WISELY PLAYED was interested in the pace early being aggressively ridden by Kimal Santo to stay close early which gave him a shot but he ended tiring a bit late to be third.
Race 7.
The seventh of the day was won by the Willow Creek Farm's AUNTIE J ($18.10), who broke alertly under Kimal Santo and was gunned to the lead from her outside gate to clear the field to set splits of 22.91 and 47.22 and when asked on the stretch turn she drew off to post a big win in 1:19.19 for trainer Rob Henson. Don Danard and Mel Snow's DRILL BABY DRILL put in her usual good effort settling behind th3 pace tipped out three wide turning for home and ran on to be second. The Ironside Stables SHE'S ON FIRE was a good position early and stayed with the leader until the stretch but ended up third as they hit the wire.
