Making an Impact
The season may be over at Hastings, but BC-bred horses continued to make their presence felt over the weekend, winning five races across the two days
BC-bred runners made a real impact at Century Mile this past weekend with five winners over the two days, including the magnificent AT ATTENTION, who turned back challenge after challenge to take the $100,000 Speed to Spare Championship Stakes for trainer Barbara Heads, rider Antonio Reyes and the five-year-old’s owner/breeders, Dr Bryan and Carol Anderson.
IT’S A FACT isn’t technically a BC-bred but was another from the breeding program of the late Glen Todd. The winner’s dam. ZENSATIONAL BEAUTY was sold, in-foal to Upstart, out of Todd’s dispersal sale back in the Spring.

Here’s Hannah to Sell at Keeneland
Local fans of thumbing through Keeneland November catalogues may have noticed three familiar mares slated for auction at the world’s biggest breeding stock sale, which gets under way in Kentucky following next weekend’s Breeders’ Cup.
Most interest, of course, will be in former Hastings’ Horse of the Year HERE’S HANNAH who, as part of Book 2, goes under the hammer as Hip# 383 on Tuesday November 8.
Consigned by Greenfield Farms as agent, the outstanding racemare, who won 15 of her 21 starts, hit the board on five other occasions and accumulated more than half-a-million dollars in purses, is offered in-foal to the former Eclipse Champion and successful Claiborne Farm stallion, BLAME.
Also in Book 2, and selling as Hip# 312, is the former leading juvenile filly at Hastings, C U AT EAU CLAIRE (Haynesfield). The winner of the Hard Rock, Sadie Diamond and BC Debutante Stakes as a two-year-old, as well as the Chariot Chaster and CTHS Sales Stakes as a sophomore, look certain to attract considerable interest as she is in-foal to Triple Crown winner and leading first-season sire, JUSTIFY.
Finally, in Book 4 (Hip# 2193) and, like HERE’S HANNAH, being offered in-foal to BLAME, is the former BC Oaks runner-up, TIPTOE. The young mare, who has already produced foals by Honor Code and Union Rags, raced in the colours of Swift Thoroughbreds and is being sold as the property of BC’s own Whitewood Farm, Tiptoe’s original breeders.
Breeders’ Cup Week!
Breeders’ Cup has a YouTube channel dedicated to all the latest news and gossip ahead of horseracing’s very own Olympics. Breeders’ Cup action gets underway with “Future Stars Friday” on Friday November 4 and includes no fewer than five Grade 1 contests for juveniles.
The big day is on Saturday and culminates with the salivating prospect of the
$6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic — featuring the world’s top-rated horse, FLIGHTLINE.
