Race 1.
The first race on the Saturday program went to Darryl Hammond, Kristy Hammond, Bill Dobbie and John Snow's TEXAS LEGACY ($20.90) who was given a perfect ride by newcomer Bebeto Harvey, drafting in behind the speed then tipping out three-wide approaching the far turn to stay clear of trouble before marching on to victory in 1:18.10 for trainer John Snow. Vintage LGA and Mark Freeman’s MISS ACCELERATE ran much improved race, battling three-wide on a quick pace (22.64, 46.10) and stayed on gamely under Amadeo Perez to be second for trainer Mark Freeman. Willow Creek Farm's PERFECT PENNY had a bit of a wide trip but managed to get up for third under Kerron Khelawan for trainer Steve Henson.
Race 2.
The second of the day was won by Mount View Stables and Rob Gilker's JOSE JOSE ($4.10), who was afforded an extremely easy lead, ambling through splits of 23.70 and 47.70 then, as expected, sprinting well clear and winning in hand in 1:16.96 under Kerron Khelawan for trainer Rob Gilker. J G Williamson Racing’s TIME TICKER tried valiantly to make a race of it under Amadeo Perez, but the fractions didn’t help and he had to settle for second for Steve Henson. Hastings Racing Club's PRINCE CAIRO ran up the inside on the final turn under Antonio Reyes to get the third spot for trainer John Snow.
Race 3.
The third race saw an impressive debut run from Rob and Sheena Maybin's WESTMINSTER, who muscled his way to the lead early under Chris Mamdeen, securing the rail and he cruised (22.80, 46.52) uncontested and had lots left in reserve to win in 1:16.38 for conditioner Rob Maybin. However, the horse was subsequently disqualified and placed fifth for interference away from the gate. Randy Lane and Roy Nelson's RUN RUDOLF ($13.30), positioned nicely by Silvino Morales, had dead aim on the ‘winner’ but was unable to get near him and was an easy second for trainer Keith Pedersen before being promoted to first after the disqualification. Dennis Spence’s WHAT’S SHAKIN ran well in his debut, running just off the pace and finished with interest to be third, then second after the DQ . Dave and Sylvea Gregory's QUATRE BAK showed excellent gate speed under Kimal Santo and was up-close early before getting a little tired late, ending up fourth but moved up to third for trainer Edgar Mendoza. Rob and Vicky Gilker's CROWN COUNCIL was impeded early and never comfortable behind runners, finishing fifth and elevated to fourth after the DQ.
Race 4.
The fourth of the afternoon was won by Lorie Henson and Helen Klimes QUEEN OF ATTITUDE ($4.40) who made her usual mess of the start, then saved ground until the backstretch where she angled out to the three path and gound-out a victory under Amadeo Perez for trainer Steve Henson in 1:16.84. Willow Creek Farm's NINE OCLOCK CEASER was fast away from the gate, setting sensible splits of 22.89 and 46.15 under Antonio Reyes and fought determinedly in the late going but could not hold off the winner to give Steve Henson the Exacta. Don Tetarenko’s SILK STILETTOS wasn’t quick enough to get the lead, but was able to sit a close second on the outside and stayed there until the final turn where she was swamped by the winner. She stayed on well to be third for trainer Craig MacPherson.
Race 5.
The fifth saw Stuart Carmichael and Bill Randall's CURLIN ROCKS ($5.40) dominate his rivals under Amadeo Perez, going wire-to-wire (22.66, 45.72) in a quick 1:16.64 for trainer Mark Cloutier. Barry Doud's BUZZINGA KARMA was off a step slow, but regained his stride and got into a good spot early then put on a strong three wide run and ended up a clear runner-up for trainer Carl Lausten. Blue Willow Dairy’s ROOKIE YEAR was a little too far back, but still managed to put in a sustained bid to finish third under Silvino Morales for trainer Dave Forster.
Race 6.
The sixth went to Don Danard and Mel Snow's ROSE OF TEXAS ($18.60) who secured the front end with Jose Sanchez in the saddle through sensible fractions of 23.01 and 46.40, took the lead to the stretch and refused to let anyone get by and hit the line first in 1:17.48 for conditioner Mel Snow. Rob and Sheena Maybin's OSTRACIZE made a brilliant showing in her 2024 debut under Ridge Balgobin, flying late to just miss in a tight photo for conditioner Rob Maybin. BFA Holdings’ CARLA'S HONOR was prominent early, racing near a relaxed pace on the rail with Silvino Morales at the controls, and they followed the winner to the stretch, finishing a close third for trainer Cindy Krasner.
Race 7.
The last of the day was won by Rob and Sheena Maybin's CERTIFIABLE ($15.40), who led the mares on a merry chase under Ridge Balgobin, leading through comfy splits of 24.33, 49.25 and 1:14.56, then had plenty left in the tank to get the victory in 1:45.27 in her first try of the year for trainer Rob Maybin. Don Musgrove's PINEAPPLE TIDBITS was given every opportunity by Silvino Morales, saving every inch of ground, but had to settle for second for conditioner Keith Pedersen. Dreamtime Stable’s AMANDA was on the early pace under Antonio Reyes but could not stay with the top two ending up third for Greg Beneen.
