Voting by a panel of local horsewomen and horsemen will decide the winners in each category over the next few weeks and the winners will be announced as early as possible in 2023.

Date Set for 48th Sovereign Awards

The Jockey Club of Canada will host the 48th annual Sovereign Awards ceremony to honour Canada’s champions of 2022 at one of Toronto’s premier venues, Universal Eventspace, located at 6250 Highway 7, Vaughan, Ontario.
The celebration will take place Thursday, April 13, 2023. Tickets to the 48th annual Sovereign Awards ceremony are $250 each, with tables of ten discounted to $2,000. Early-bird tickets are also available for a discounted price of $225 until March 13, 2023.

The Jockey Club of Canada was founded in 1973 by E.P. Taylor to serve as the international representative of the Canadian Thoroughbred industry. The mission of The Jockey Club of Canada is to promote and maintain a high standard for Thoroughbred racing and breeding in Canada at a level which is recognized internationally for the benefit of all those interested in the sport including the general public by operations and services such as, but not limited to: evaluating all Graded, Listed and Black-type races in Canada annually; conducting the annual Sovereign Awards for outstanding achievement in Thoroughbred racing and breeding in Canada; maintaining a field office in Canada for the Jockey Club of the United States and the Jockey Club Registry Service; and by representing Canada as a Member of the IFHA.
EMERALD DOWNS ANNOUNCES 2023 LIVE DATES
AUBURN, Wash. (November 23) – Emerald Downs has announced a 52-day live racing season for 2023, with opening day Saturday, May 6, and closing day Sunday, September 17.
The 2023 season features 20 Saturdays, 19 Sundays, 11 Fridays, and two Mondays.
Opening Day shares billing with the 148th Kentucky Derby with a special 1 p.m. first post at Emerald Downs.
Post times are similar to recent seasons with Saturday post 2 p.m. May 13-June 24 and 5 p.m. July 1-Sept. 16. Sunday post is 2 p.m. throughout the meeting while Friday post (beginning June 9) is 7 p.m. Holiday racing is scheduled Monday, May 29, 2 p.m., and Monday, July 3, 5 p.m.
The 2023 meet—the 28th at Emerald Downs—features the 88th running of the Longacres Mile. The stakes schedule will be released in December.
Live racing dates were approved at last week’s monthly meeting of the Washington Horse Racing Commission.
