BC Cup Day Guest Decorators
The winners of BC Cup Day Stakes contests will have special guest decorators to greet them. Each of the former riders or, in the case of the BC Debutante Stakes, hockey star Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, generously agreed to be part of the festivities at quite short notice and Greg Douglas (Dr Sport) will be on hand to greet the guests in the winner’s circle. The afternoon of top-class racing will also be sprinkled with some fine racing tradition thanks to the fingers and pursed lips of bugler John Korsrud.
Guest Decorators lineup & schedule:
Race 2 – BC Debutante – 2:30 p.m. Post Time – Ryan Nugent Hopkins
Race 3 – BC Distaff – 3:00 p.m. Post Time – Richard Hamel

Second-itis for Hastings’ Raiders
The Barbara Heads-trained RUN LOLA RUN (Tapizar) was an unfortunate runner-up in the day’s feature Allowance contest at Century Mile on Saturday. Striking the front at the top of the lane, she received a significant bump from the eventual winner Dance Shoes. However, following a lengthy inquiry, the result was allowed to stand.
The Rob Gilker-trained NINE ONE ONE (Macleans Music) also survived a hefty bump, this one at the start, before leading them all a merry dance on his return to Emerald Downs for Saturday’s feature Allowance contest. The 4yo, who was on an Emerald Downs hat-trick following two winning raids already this season, gave way only late in the affair, under the urging of Heribert Martinez, and lost nothing in defeat to Torpedo Away.
Jackie’s Warrior Takes G1 Vanderbilt in a Canter
Eclipse Award-winning sprinter Jackie’s Warrior put up yet another extraordinary display on Saturday, winning the G1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt under Joel Rosario without being remotely extended. The Steve Asmussen-trained 4yo son of Maclean’s Music stopped the clock at 1:09:74. The stunning victory made Jackie’s Warrior the first horse to win three Grade 1 contests in consecutive years at Saratoga.
