HBPA directors met with the Honourable David Eby and other MLAs in Surrey on Sunday to discuss industry challenges ahead of October's Provincial General Elections
The Hastings racing community was well represented at the Surrey Reception with Premier David Eby yesterday, with HBPA President Dave Milburn, HBPA Vice President Gary Johnson and HBPA Director Denise Praill, all generously giving up their Sunday evening to attend.
The gathering, which was attended by around 1,200 people, was held at the Aria Banquet Hall in Surrey and provided an opportunity to meet directly with local MLAs to discuss our industry and the challenges it faces.
Denise said: “We were strategic in arriving early and having a first audience with the Premier directly and before dinner. There was also a photo booth and meet/greet following dinner with Premier Eby. All the Surrey MLAs were there, including Cloverdale MLA, Mike Starchuk.”
Government MLAs representing Surrey, the province’s fastest growing city, are key influencers and supportive of racing.
Denise, Gary and David also met briefly with Minister of Labour Harry Bains, who invited representatives to visit his constituency with more information, while Minister Bruce Ralston also indicated interest in meeting again.
We’ll keep everyone informed as and when any future meetings take place.
Don’t Forget — Trainers’ Meeting!
