A glorious early autumn day with temperatures well above normal for the time of year made for a perfect backdrop to the final Saturday of the season. The track remained fast with the majority of races falling to horses on, or near, the speed
Race 1.
The first on Saturday went to Willow Creek Farm's C C SUNRISE ($13.50), who took full advantage of a three-way speed duel with Antonio Reyes aboard and they produced a solid final quarter-mile move to get up in deep stretch for the victory in 1:17.21 for trainer Steve Henson. Peter Redekop's TAMARA MINE was left at the start, then forced to rush up for position by Amadeo Perez before speeding three wide through quick splits (22.58Â 45.47) and was just reeled-in late. BFA Holdings CARLA'S HONOR was far back off the speed and flew late to be third under Kimal Santo for trainer Cindy Krasner.
Claims:
TAMARA MINE was claimed by owner Nigel Reid for trainer Pat Jarvis
Race 2.
The second of the day was the 41st renewal of the $50,000 Glen Todd Fantasy and not disappointing her backers was Jeff Sengara's SOMEDAY LADY ($2.20), who took no chances and was put on the lead as soon as the gates were sprung by Kerron Khelawan as they dawdled through easy fractions (24.91, 50.35, 1:15.21). The pair then sprinted to the wire with an easy win in 1:45.98 for conditioner Cindy Krasner. Joe and Gloria Russo's SAILING FORCE was happy to relax behind the slow pace under Chris Mamdeen and they put in a solid rail run to get the runner-up spot for trainer Patty Leaney . G.O. Stables’ ANOTHER LAST DANCE was held behind the speed early, then joined the pacesetters on the backside to engage the winner but could not stay with her and ran-on well to be third for Erick Gutierrez.
Race 3.
The third race of the afternoon was won by Michelle Roberts-Henson, Brad Henson, Randy Henson, Dan Henson and Trevor Irwin's BARNEY GOOGLE ($16.80), who enjoyed the ballistic pace that was being set up front and was miles back early under Bebeto Harvey. Then, when the front runners were softened up, he started to pass them all on his way to a big win in 1:45.24 for trainer Rob Henson . Warren, Neil Stajkowski, June Sutherland, Ross Switzer and Barry Hickman's BRIAN'S DE LEIGHT, who was happy to sit a few lengths off of the quick pace (23.15, 46.53) under Ridge Balgobin, made the lead in 1:11.82 which eventually took the starch out of him with a quarter mile still to run and he tired late to be second for Charlene Miller. Jean Lavallee's DAPPER DON was sharp early under Chris Mamdeen and they tracked the crazy fractions and did well to be third for trainer Jean Lavallee.
Race 4.
The fourth race was the $50,000 Glen Todd Ascot Graduation and proving best was Willow Creek Farms and Lorie Henson’s MOUNT DOOM ($2.30), who set a comfortable pace (23.80, 48.39, 1:13.31) under Antonio Reyes and they had plenty left in reserve when it counted, winning smartly in 1:45.57 for conditioner Steve Henson. Dennis Dale, Morris Peter and Ed Welsh's COUNTER CAT was brilliant today, putting pressure on the heavy favourite early with Brian Boodramsingh at the controls and pushing as hard as he could and ending up an impressive second for trainer Keith Pedersen. Joe and Gloria Russo's KRIS'S GOLD turned in another good effort, settling in mid-pack, and got into contention on the final turn and checked-in a close third for trainer Patty Leaney.
Race 5.
The fifth race saw Willow Creek Farm's SHE'S KIND OF HOT ($2.50) recover from a bobble at the break under Antonio Reyes to get in contention on the first turn, before battling through the final quarter-mile to edge by for the victory in 1:17.90 for trainer Steve Henson. Swift Thoroughbreds’ FEBRUARY was sharp away from the gate and secured the rail and the lead through sensible splits (22.73, 46.04) under Silvino Morales, and they stayed on determinedly on the inside, finishing a tough-luck second for trainer Dino Condilenios. Willow Creek Farm's DELTA SUNRISE changed her running style, coming from off-the-pace with Kimal Santo aboard, and they closed-up late to get third money for Steve Henson.
Race 6.
The sixth race on the program went to G.O. Stables and Alexa Ramirez's PENALTY TO RANGERS ($8.10), who went unchallenged on the lead (22.90, 46.55) with Kimal Santo aboard, and those fractions were comfy enough to allow her to have enough left in the tank to find the line first in 1:17.85 for trainer Erick Gutierrez. Vintage LGA and Mark Freeman’s MISS ACCELERATE sat a perfect trip behind the pace on the rail, then Amadeo Perez angled her off the fence to make a run and she just fell short, finishing a very good second for Mark Freeman. Sapphire Stables and Ted Feenstra’s SHAMRA raced on the outside much of the journey under Brian Boodramsingh and came in third for Edgar Mendoza.
Race 7.
The seventh and final event of the day as won by Bob Leffler, Bryan Killins and Gord McCormick's ANOTHERSUNNYDAY ($40.90), who settled just off of a relaxed pace (23.62, 48.59, 1:13.43) under Kimal Santo and then, approaching the far turn, she exploded past the speed and opened up an insurmountable lead to cruise home stylishly in 1:44.69 for trainer Dino Condilenios. Rob and Sheena Maybin's MISS THE HYPE was held in mid-pack by Chris Mamdeen and they began to pass rivals on the stretch turn, ending up an impressive second for trainer Rob Maybin. WYN Racing Stables ICE BREAKER was also in the middle of the field through the early going under Amadeo Perez and they scooted up the inside to 2in a three at battle for third for trainer Larry Grieve.
