CTHS Sale Boosted by Russos' Input
Long-time Hastings' supporters Joe and Gloria Russo enjoyed a fruitful afternoon at Thunderbird Showground, Securing 6 yearlings for $178,000 and including the sale topper
A pared-down catalogue made for some competitive conditions at the Thunderbird Showground on Wednesday as the CTHS BC Yearling and Mixed Sale saw a more than 16 percent leap in average – although there were 13 fewer Hips sold this year than in 2022.
The top lot of the day was Hip #47, a daughter of SUNGOLD out of REVEALING MOMENT, a full-sister to Grade 1 winner, BELLE GALLANTEY. The gorgeous chestnut was consigned by Bryan and Carol Anderson’s White Rose Farm and knocked down to Joe and Gloria Russo for $61,000.
The Russos made quite an impact at the sale, securing 6 yearlings for $178,000. They also bought: Hip #12, a SUNGOLD gelding out of former broodmare of the year, CLASSADALA; Hip #26, a BAKKEN half-sister to former BC Champion juvenile LORD ROSBERG; Hip #29, a SUNGOLD colt and first foal out of Stakes placed KRISSY; Hip #32, an impressive colt by UNIFIED from the immediate family of recent Ballerina Stakes (G1) winner ECHO ZULU and Hip #52, a COUNTERFORCE filly out of Hastings’ Stakes winner SAILINGFORTHESUN from a prolific family that includes the likes of SLEWPAST, GOSAILGO and WEEKEND WIZARD.
Wild Rose Farm was just pipped for leading consignor bragging rights by Emerald Acres, whose seven yearlings offered grossed $192,500 and included Hip #5, a LENT half-sister to this season’s Chris Loseth Handicap and 2022 leading juvenile, LEGACY SQUARE, as well as the multiple stakes-placed U DID IT. The filly made $58,000 and was knocked down to Whitehall Farms’ Gary McNeil as the second-highest price of the day.
