B.C Derby Day Entries
A first look at the weekend's big race fields, with 12 slated to go for the $125,000 B.C Derby, while the sensational Avana takes on six rivals in the $75,000 B.C. Oaks
Sunday’s Overnights
Around the Region
Trainer Rob VanOverschot saddled former Sadie Diamond third HIGHER IMAGE to land a $20,000 Allowance Optional Claiming contest at Century Mile on Saturday. Len Harris’ daughter of Paynter, who was bred in B.C. by Bryan and Carol Anderson, made light work of her rivals, winning pretty much as she liked under former Hastings rider, Alex Marti, who also rode the BC-bred Hastings winner CHASE THE SUN (Bakken) to finish a closing second in a similar contest on the Friday.
Rob Gilker, meanwhile, suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune with typical good grace on Saturday. He saddled NINE ONE ONE (Maclean’s Music) to land a hard-fought Allowance contest at Emerald Downs by a nose, only to have the stewards intervene and disqualify the six-year-old who, incidentally, was bred in B.C. by Steen and Cathy Reggelsen.
Winter Quarters at Pacific North Stables
Finding somewhere to winter your horse will be a little easier this year, following news that trainer Peter Gregory, along with daughter Kelsi Wellard (above), have leased a large, multi-purpose equestrian facility in Delta.
PACIFIC NORTH STABLES (6003 104 Street, Delta), has 75 stalls, a large indoor riding arena and turnout paddocks of varying sizes; the larger of which are on a riversand base.
Kelsi also reports that there will be indoor and outdoor areas for breaking youngsters and they will also foal-out mares at the facility where horses will be turned out during the day and brought in each evening.
Anyone interested in finding out more can pop along and see Kelsi in Barn A, or make contact in the first instance via email: Kelsiwellard@hotmail.com or through Instagram at pacific_north_stables
